The Race Car Bedroom Idea for Boys – Kids Bedroom Ideas
Boys are known to be little balls of energy. They like to play all day with their toys or rough play with other boys. Let that bright and energetic spirit be your guide in designing and decorating his room. Here are ideas for a boy’s bedroom.
The Race Car Bedroom Ideas for Boys
Probably one of the most common themes for boys is the race car bedroom theme. This idea on the surface seems to be one of the easiest to build and design because one can always use your children’s toy cars as part of the accessories for the room.Yet there are many aspects that you need to consider when doing a race car bedroom. For instance, you first need to decide whether or not you want something generic. This being just a bunch of race themed accessories and furniture or do you want to settle for a more specialized theme. This could be designing the bedroom to look like Radiator Springs, the fictional town in Disney’s Pixar hit movie Cars. The choice depends on what your child prefers and at the same time what your budget prefers! Remember, kids can quickly change their minds about how they want their room to be. This is so true when they see something new on TV or movies. Keep this in mind when deciding your race car themed room.
The great thing about a race car room is the fact that there are plenty of car themes to choose from. If you or your sons are fans of NASCAR then by all means you can personalize your son’s room with all the trimmings of a NASCAR circuit. The same is true if he is a toy matchbox fan or a sports car fan. The choices are virtually endless. Let’s move on with some decorating tips on how to fulfill your son’s race car fantasy by incorporating those ideas into a unified race car themed room.
The Walls – In terms of color, the choices are virtually limitless. The color of the wall can be adorned with wallpaper that is based on your son’s favorite car or character from a movie.
An interesting idea is to choose colors that complement one another. For instance, you can paint the bottom half of the walls with a darker shade and the upper half with a lighter one. The general idea is the intersection of these contrasting palettes would be the perfect balance to create a race car track style border. You can do this by painting a black stripe using chalkboard paint and then adding details like a white lane using chalk. An interesting alternative is to use magnetic paint for the walls and then lining it up with car shaped magnets like a sort of race.
When you are considering paints, be sure that these are kid safe and washable. If your son is a bit older you can ask for their input on what colors they like on the walls.
The Race Car Bed – A race car room wouldn’t be complete without a race car bed for him to sleep in and indulge in his race car fantasies. There are many available products online that you can choose from. Race car beds come in various sizes. These products are made of plastic or wood. I personally prefer the plastic type, as these are very sturdy yet lightweight enough to easily move.
Among the race car beds available online, my favorite is the Little Tikes Twin Race Car Bed. This product comes in two variants. The first one is a Disney’s Cars inspired design. The car bed comes in the shape and color of Lightning McQueen complete with decals. This is perfect if your child is a great fan of this movie character.
The 2nd variant is the plain Little Tikes Race Car Twin Bed. This bed is for a room that does not necessarily have to be inspired by the movie. The bed comes in a nice blue color and works really well with almost any theme.
Once you have the race car bed, you need to get some race car bedding to go with it. Again, there are many race car themed linens available online. You can get a NASCAR inspired comforter or even a Lightning McQueen bed sheet and pillow cover. There are also bed sheets that come in a race car pattern and even a checkered flag design. Be sure to get a mattress that is appropriate for the size of the bed.
The Accessories – Decorating your son’s room with race car décor should be a cinch once you have all the other elements in place. The easiest way to do this is to include all your son’s toy cars into the room’s décor. If he has an extensive car collection, you may want to put them in a glass cabinet for display or arrange them for viewing using bookcases.
An effective way of keeping your son’s room tidy is to put race car themed storage buckets in the room so that he can pack his toys away easily when he is done. You can also add a checkered flag carpet at the door and place a few race car posters in different parts of the room. For the final touch hang a personalized license plate with your son’s name on the door of his room giving him a sense of ownership and appreciation.
A race car bed naturally isn’t simply for our young lads. Plenty of young girls would love to have their very own race car bed and a themed bedroom to match.
Can you imagine the excitement when you surprise your little girl with a pink race car bed and room replete with all the trimmings. Possibly in more perceived feminine colors. In our world where stereotyping has all but vanished let’s work with our daughters if this interests them.
