The Pirate Bedroom Idea for Boys
For adventurous kids that love the fantasy of sailing the high seas as a swashbuckling pirate, designing a pirate themed room for your little boy is one way of making that dream a reality. The recent success of pirate themed movie franchises in Hollywood has brought to the forefront many a child’s fantasy of becoming a treasure-hunting adventurer. Here are tips on decorating a little boy’s pirate room.
The Walls – We begin by choosing a turquoise color for the walls, as this will resemble the waters of the deep blue sea that he would be sailing in. If you are the crafty type, you can stencil in some nice clouds and a pirate ship to keep it in line with the theme. Place the bed near to the part of the wall where you will put the ship. Now your son can feel like he is in his own ship peering out into the ocean looking at another pirate vessel. Alternatively, you can paint the walls to resemble the inside of a pirate ship or its galley. Be sure
The Bed – You can basically go all out and purchase a nice pirate themed bed in the shape of a pirate ship. There are many different designs available online. Probably one of the most novel pirate beds available online is designed like a pirate galleon suspended in midair. The only way you can access it is through a wooden plank like bridge! There are also regular beds available simply with a pirate inspired design. The one that caught my eye was that of a wooden bed with a nice wooden headboard where the image of a pirate was carved into it.
For the comforter and bed sheets there are many pirate themes available on the Internet. One particular item that is always popular is the Jolly Roger Pirate Skull and Crossbones tapestry bedspread.
The Accessories – You can actually purchase a pirate’s treasure chest for your son’s room. I saw a particularly elegant one, although pricey, called the Davy Jones’ Dead Man’s full size treasure chest. For those on a budget you can purchase a plastic pirate’s chest to store your son’s toys. Compliment this with a nice pirate 3-D lamp beside the bed or a pirate’s cove decorator lamp. For the cabinets, you can incorporate the pirate theme by using a pirate ceramic cabinet drawer pull knob. To finish off the room, be sure to add a stuffed toy pirate’s parrot that you can perch on the bed’s headboard. Once again all of these products can be found online.
One of the most exciting aspects of designing a pirate themed room is decorating the floor. You can virtually go wild with some funky pirate themed carpets. Or purchase a rug that has the image of the world or a compass on it or one with a skull and bones design. These products are found online.
Decorating a pirate themed room is really a fun activity that you can share with your son. Have him pick out decorative items that suit his taste and keep him involved so that he will develop a greater appreciation of the room once it is finished.
